Monthly baskets prepared by Amber Friedman
January 2016

The fifth basket is here! Is it possible?
Welcome to 2016! Exciting. Here for you this month is some serious moisturizer, a relaxing tea, and let’s not forget… an immune boosting syrup.
Elderberry Syrup is a powerful syrup used to treat colds, flu and upper respiratory infections.  Elderberries also have immune enhancing properties and are very effective when combined with Echinacea.  I always have this syrup on hand for me and the kids in the winter season.  I will use it when they have a big cough, or seem a little under the weather. This syrup tastes so amazing it is easy to get the kids to drink some and have positive healing effects fast.  I would suggest a teaspoon/tablespoon a couple times a day for age’s 2 years and up. This syrup will last longer in your fridge and it wants you to drink it before spring! The elderberries in this recipe came from a sweet man who has a U-Pick Elderberry farm just outside of Yarrow, BC.
Chamomile Tisane is the featured tea of the month. This tea would be great at night to help you have a restful sleep and sweet dreams.  Chamomile and Lemon Balm are both great local herbs that you can grow in your garden and they are anti-viral, anti-septic and nervines. Although you may fear this herbs thinking they will make you all sleepy and that kind of stuff…fear not!  These herbs strengthen your nerves, which in turn gives you MORE energy! It’s a miracle. Incorporate this tea into your life for so many great reasons. A note on the rosehips…another local herb that is full of vitamin C, has antioxidant with disease-fighting abilities.
Cocoa Body Lotion for those of you who filled in your form there was a lot of LOTION LOVERS out there so I had to make my favourite lotion for your winter skin.  I make this lotion for every season using different solar infused herb and oils based on what I think our skin needs at this time of year.  I used some heavier oils in this batch olive oil, macadamia nut oil and cocoa butter to create a super moisturizing lotion that smells so good you will want to eat it, and I think you could. I will post the recipe on my blog and I will offer a lotion-making workshop in FEB 2016.
Facial Elixir is another special request from the client intake forms and one of my other favourite products to use all year.  This is a light oil to use on your face in the morning and/or at night.  It will take a few moments to seep deeply into your skin and start repairing your cells thanks to the calendula and roses in there.  This oil is good for all skin types.
Soap of the month is an unscented bar made with macadamia nut oil & butter with some cocoa nibs thrown in for colour and a bit of the wake up vibes of cocoa! Use this soap anywhere, anytime.
EXPRESS Chakra Tea  sample from Urban Earth Teas by Mara Jones.  This is from the set of Chakra Teas that Mara created.  She is a DR. of Natural Medicine, and can be located at 4660 Marine Ave, Powell River BC.
